Top 10 Summer Home Maintenance Tasks

It's summer and you just want to chill and drink a cold one with friends and family whenever possible. I got it. In case you can find the time to do some home maintenance I've put together a list of the most important tasks. Of course, if you want to hire a professional to help you tackle the list, give me a call and I can provide you with contacts for the best in town.

  1. Inspect and Clean Gutters and Downspouts: Remove any leaves, twigs, and debris to ensure proper drainage and prevent water damage.
  2. Check and Service the HVAC System:
Replace filters, clean vents, and consider a professional tune-up to ensure efficient cooling during the hot months.
Inspect the Roof: Look for any damaged or missing shingles and repair them to prevent leaks and other issues.
  3. Seal Windows and Doors:
Check for gaps or cracks and reapply caulking or weatherstripping to improve energy efficiency and keep cool air inside.
Clean and Repair Decks and Patios: Power wash to remove dirt and grime, then inspect for any needed repairs or re-staining to keep them in good condition.
  4. Check Exterior Paint and Siding: Look for peeling or chipped paint and touch up or repaint areas as needed. Clean siding to remove mold and mildew.
  5. Maintain the Lawn and Garden: Regularly mow, water, and fertilize the lawn. Prune bushes and trees, and ensure that plants are well-watered during dry periods.
  6. Inspect Plumbing: Check for leaks, especially around faucets and hoses. Ensure outdoor spigots and sprinklers are functioning properly.
  7. Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Replace batteries and ensure all detectors are working correctly for your family's safety.
  8. Clean and Organize the Garage: Clear out clutter, organize tools and equipment, and clean the floors to create a more functional space.
  9. Inspect and Clean Windows: Wash windows inside and out to improve natural light and check for any damage that may need repair.
  10. Check Irrigation Systems: Ensure that sprinkler systems are working properly and adjust settings as needed to conserve water while keeping the lawn healthy.

Taking care of these maintenance tasks during the summer can help prevent larger problems down the road and keep your home looking and functioning its best.
